Flutes come in many different sizes. The standard sizes are A, B, C and E. A is the largest, B is smaller, C is in between an A and B in size. E is the most recent and the smallest standard size. Technology is helping the industry develop new flutes. Miniature flutes (F&G) are becoming very popular.
Flutes make corrugated board strong and rigid. When standing on end, the columns or flutes are able to support a great deal of weight. The flutes also serve as a protector, insulator and cushioning device.
Different flute sizes can be combined in one piece of corrugated board to manipulate compression strength and total thickness of the board. For example, in a piece of double wall board, one layer might be B flute while the other layer C flute. This flexibility gives our Design Engineers even more ways to enhance or protect your product.
